Vintage Tropical

Tropical wall-covering is coming back into fashion for all interior spaces, so when I came upon this vintage wall-paper while visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art, I was inspired to post my delight. Designed in 1804, these block-printed, stenciled and hand brushed panels depict European voyages to the South Pacific, in particular Captain James Cook's voyages. The manufacturer, Joseph Dufour, used watercolor pigments to depict the pastel sky against the botanical greenery of the tropical trees. Tahitian-inspired this wall-paper is still modern in my eyes.
