Artist Inspiration - Poros, 2015 by Nathan Craven

Poros is a temporary site-specific ceramic installation. A window is not only a portal looking outward; it also defines the connections between exterior and interior spaces. Craven sited this network of about 6,000 fired clay elements within a recently-reopened window at the MFA Boston, allowing the work to be illuminated by perpetually shifting natural light and to stand between the gallery and the outside world. For Craven, structure and ornament are inseparable. The hollow ceramic forms- porous, as the title suggests - reference symbols including flora, sunbursts and the underwater world.
