The New Perez Art Museum in Miami

The new Perez Art Museum in Miami, a $200 million, 200,000-square-foot waterfront facility designed by famed Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, is set to open in December 2013. Located downtown in the new 29 acre Miami Museum Park, the space will have dramatic views of Biscayne bay. A catalyst for the transformation of the district, the new museum is central to the efforts to strengthen  Miami’s momentum as an emerging global capital. The space includes a large open terrace that will wrap around the building and will be shaded by overhanging lattice-like canopies.  Vines will hang from the canopies and trees will grow through the terrace, as if a subtropical jungle were about to engulf the building. A beautiful blend of nature and architecture, I am looking forward to visiting this new museum next year in my hometown of Miami.
