Texture Inspiration - Daniele Papuli
"Centrica" is a hand cut paper installation created by Italian artist Daniele Papuli. Centrica, Italian for "centric" or "central", describes the swirling spherical forms in this manipulated paper sculpture. Modeled after a mollusk, it mimics a curved shell, revealing variations of shadow and light and giving volume to flat pieces of paper. "Aside from the power of words printed on the page, for me, paper is changing, vibrant, living matter," explains the artist. As the importance of the written word is replaced by digital media, Papuli alters the traditional use of paper and re imagines the material's aesthetic possibilities.
