Stickworks

Is it a bird’s nest or a treehouse?  Aliens maybe?  This textural sculpture, titled " The Big Easy", was constructed entirely from locally harvested saplings and designed by artist Patrick Dougherty. Constructed with the help of staff from Duke Botanical Gardens, this massive design took three weeks to create from start to finish. 18 feet tall, the objects are ancestral looking and the result is organic, undulating and intimate.
