Colorful Threads
Mexican Huichol art is deeply symbolic, and nierikas — bead or yarnwork "votive paintings" — are petitions to the gods. Maize, peyote and deer are usually present in the artwork, as well as candles, arrows, serpents and scorpions. Colorful and unique, each individual Huichol artist develops his or her own personal style. Detail shots of these yarn paintings were photographed at the Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto, Ontario. http://www.textilemuseum.ca/home
