Design Inspiration - Jennifer Angus

Repeated Warning, 2014 by Jennifer Angus (From Edmonton, Alberta, works in Madison, WI) Mixed Media. Known as a textile artist, Angus took a research trip to the Golden Triangle area of Thailand to study textiles. While there, she observed the Karen tribe's practice of sewing hard beetle wings as fringe on fabric. Combining her new found material with her interest in pattern, she began arranging the insects in patterns on the wall. These patterns resemble wallpaper from a distance, and create a response on what Angus says is "compulsion and repulsion." For Angus, the insects serve as "ambassadors for their species" with a significant afterlife in the art.
